Gardening & Composting
Students will explore the foundations of mini-farming and the role agriculture has played in shaping human life. We'll look at the shift from small farms to mass food production and discuss the benefits of growing food at home. Topics include GMO vs. non-GMO, heirloom vs. hybrid seeds, what plants need to thrive, and different soil types. Children will get hands-on experience planting a garden, keeping a nature journal, and reflecting through a short essay.
Chickens
This session covers the fascinating history of chicken domestication, their global spread, and their role in home farming. Students will learn about different breeds, housing needs, feed options, and basic chicken biology—including digestion, reproduction, and simple genetics. They will have the opportunity to observe, feed, water, and interact with the chickens. Nature journaling and a short essay will help them reflect on their learning.
Rabbits
Children will discover the origins of domestic rabbits, how they spread geographically, and their role in agriculture. Lessons will focus on various breeds, proper housing, feeding, digestion, reproduction, and basic genetics. Students will have the opportunity to observe, feed, water, and gently interact with the rabbits through petting. They will also record their experiences in a nature journal and complete a reflective writing piece.
Worms & Composting
Students will dig into the world of composting and discover how worms play a vital role in creating healthy soil. They'll learn about the composting process, what materials can be composted, and how decomposition supports plant growth. Hands-on activities will include exploring a working compost system, identifying different types of organic matter, and observing compost worms up close.
